‘Hillbilly’ Heaven: J.D. Vance Defeats Ryan In Ohio

• Political newcomer J.D. Vance, author of the memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” defeated Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, becoming the first Ohioan in decades to be elected to the Senate without prior political experience.
• The race was neck-and-neck throughout, but Vance opened a late lead and won 54% to 46%.
