• New York State lawmakers just handed themselves a hefty pay raise that marks nearly 30% above their previous salary.
• “Members of both houses are getting a pay raise of $32,000, for a base salary of $142,000, under a bill Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a day before her inauguration Sunday. That’s a 29% raise over their previous salary of $110,000,” reports the Associated Press.
• “I believe that legislators need to be compensated for the hard work that they do. People don’t realize the sacrifice that they make being away from their families,” said Democrat Bronx Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.
