- The Justice Department late last week told Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott to unmoor the buoys in the Rio Grande River because they were a safety hazard to illegal migrants trying to cross into the U.S. and to others.
- The department gave Abbott until 2 p.m. Monday to either dissemble the string of big, orange buoys or at least discuss the matter.
- Abbott ignored the deadline, as expected, because he had previously argued Texas has a sovereign right to protect its borders.
