Apple is reportedly planning to unveil a new Generative AI version of its digital assistant, Siri, at the Worldwide Developers Conference in 2024.

The technology, which is currently being developed internally, is powered by an AI language model known as AJAX, which has been trained by Apple for several years. According to sources close to the company, the AI model is set to offer better capabilities than some of the existing language model options, including ChatGPT 3.5.

Reports suggest that AJAX will enable Siri to manage relationships between different Apple devices, link with other external services, offer personalised creation services and even subscription-based options to users. The technology is expected to offer greater personalisation and more natural conversation capabilities than the current version of Siri.

Previously, it was assumed that Apple would keep AJAX for internal usage only, but it seems the company has other plans, with reports indicating that the new Siri will be aimed squarely at the consumer market.

The move towards Generative AI reflects Apple’s commitment to artificial intelligence and machine learning. In line with this, the company has two teams working on AI systems, one of which is focused on language or image models, while the other is dedicated to long-term AI research involving multimodal recognition and generation.

The new Siri will enable more seamless management of Apple devices, allowing users to perform functions like setting up a new device, transferring content between multiple devices, and managing device settings with ease. Additionally, it is likely that Apple will offer a range of subscription services that users can access via the new AI assistant.

While details about the actual functionalities of the new Siri are yet to be confirmed, Apple’s commitment to artificial intelligence means that the technology is likely to be a game-changer in the digital assistant space.
