Listeria Outbreak In US Linked To Deli Meat, Cheese

Six states report outbreak of listeria infections

  • Across six U.S. states, 16 people have fallen ill and one has died from listeria infections.
  • Cases have been reported in California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York.
  • The U.S. Center for Disease Control said that the listeria outbreak could be linked to meat or cheese purchased from deli counters.
  • Listeriosis is caused by consuming food that is contaminated with the bacteria, which can spread easily between food and surfaces, and continue to grow on food even if it is chilled.
