Man Crashes Car Into Barricade Near US Capitol Building, Fatally Shoots Self

Driver Apparently Was Not Targeting A Member Of Congress In Pre-dawn Incident

  • Incident occurred at about 4 a.m. in Washington, D.C., at the intersection of East Capitol and Second streets
  • Man first exited car, which became “engulfed in flames,” according to the U.S. Capitol Police force.
  • He then allegedly fired several shots into the air before fatally shooting himself.
  • “It does not appear officers fired their weapons,” police also said. “Our investigators are looking into the man’s background.”
