Never Trump Republican, Former Maryland Gov Hogan Endorses Haley Day Before Iowa

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Sunday and endorsed Nikki Haley for the GOP presidential nomination, just one day before Iowa’s caucuses.

“I’m convinced the momentum is with Nikki Haley,” Hogan said on  CNN. “She has the potential of moving into second place, although a distant second place” behind front-running Donald Trump.

“Was that an endorsement?” the network’s Jake Tapper asked the former governor, who has been outspoken about his opposition to Trump, particularly after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. “Would you like her to get the nomination?”

Hogan replied:  “Yes, I think it is time for the party to get behind Nikki Haley.”

A recent poll from Selzer & Co. showed 20% of Republican caucus-goers have Haley as their first choice for president, compared to Donald Trump’s 48%, according to the De Moines Register. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sits in third place in the poll.
