New Focus On USA Today’s Transgender Pick As One Of Its ‘Women Of The Year’

  • USA Today released its 2023 “Women of the Year” list. It includes a distinguished woman from each of the 50 states and U.S. territories, and a handful of national honorees. Some of these women really are incredible: Nicole Mann, for example. She was the first Native American woman in space and the commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-5 mission — she’s also a mother. Nineteen-year-old Dasia Taylor from Iowa “invented an infection-detecting suture, then founded an inclusion-focused medical device company.”
  • Then there’s Minnesota : USA Today chose Leigh Finke to represent the North Star state, the first transgender legislator in Minnesota’s House of Representatives. Finke is a biological man who transitioned to live as a woman in 2017. Finke’s politics aside, this is someone who has lived as a man the majority of their adult life. This is an affront to other extraordinary Minnesota women. It didn’t take long to find some amazing women in Minnesota. Women worthy of note, perhaps even in a national publication.
