New Zealand And Finland PMs Clap Back At Reporter’s Sexist Question

Prime ministers questioned if meeting transpired because they are both young, female leaders

  • At a press conference in Auckland, Finland’s Sanna Marin and New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern were asked by a male journalist if they were meeting because they are “similar in age and got a lot of common stuff there.”
  • Ardern retorted, “Because two women meet, it is not simply because of their gender,” and questioned whether male leaders would have received the same question.
  • Marin agreed and bluntly added that the two met “because we are prime ministers.”
