- Charley Trippi, who had been the oldest living member of the Football Hall of Fame, died peacefully Oct. 20 at his home in Athens, Ga., at the age of 100.
- Trippi famously signed a then-record $100,000 contract with the Chicago Cardinals in 1947. He led the Cardinals to a championship in January 1947.
