One Of Last GOP Reps Who Voted To Impeach Trump Gets Another Primary Challenger

Washington Republican Tiffany Smiley has officially entered the race for Washington’s 4th Congressional District. Smiley previously ran for Washington Senate in 2022 and eventually lost to Patty Murray.

“My journey to politics started at Walter Reed Army Hospital almost 20 years ago when I pushed back against gov dysfunction and won,” she wrote on social media. “Now, it’s time for me to push back from inside Congress, and win for my friends and neighbors in WA-04. Join me, as we take the fight to Congress!”

Washington’s Fourth District is currently represented by Republican Dan Newhouse. The race is garnering national attention because Newhouse was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump in 2021.

In addition to Smiley and Newhouse, Republican Jerrod Sessler is also running to represent the Fourth Congressional District. Sessier was recently endorsed by Trump.

Also on Monday, Newhouse officially announced he will run for reelection.

He is one of two remaining House members who voted to impeach Trump.
