Putin Appears Landslide Winner In Russia’s Presidential Election, Six More Years

Russia President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, the final day of voting in the country’s presidential, appeared to have won another six years in office.

He had 87% of the vote with roughly 60% of polls reporting.

Putin’s victory was never in doubt, in large part because Russians no real alternatives to Putin after he ruthlessly cracked down on dissent.

Putin, who also is waging an unpopular war on neighboring Ukraine, said the election indicates “trust” and “hope” in him.

Protest voters create long line at polling stations at starting Sunday at noon, the hour that dissents calling for the them to line up and cast anti-Putin votes.
