- One voter Wednesday expressed that exact sentiment before Pence’s final stop Wednesday at the Johnson County Republican Reagan Dinner just outside Iowa City. A former real estate agent named Gwenn asked only to be identified by her first name for fear of coming across too harsh.
- “He was a great VP. Fabulous. He was like the steady rudder, and that’s what Trump needed,” she said of the night’s keynote speaker. Still, she expressed reservations, namely that Pence “comes across as a little too squeaky clean” with his “soothing” and “soft voice.” To beat Biden, she felt Republicans “just need a tougher person.”
