Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy on Sunday defended fellow Republican Capitol Hill lawmaker Sen. Katie Britt amid criticism of her official party response to President Biden’s State of the Union address last week.
Roy posted on social media that GOP leadership threw Britt “to the wolves,” considering she lacked Senate speech experience.
He argued Britt, a freshman senator, has yet to even give a Senate speech.
Her speech has garnered lots of scrutiny, with the NBC-TV sketch-comedy show “Saturday Night Live” even satirizing it this weekend.
Britt is also also criticized for using a story of sexual violence from two decades ago in Mexico, to which Roy attributed to Britt having been was left “without fact-checking [for] the speech to help protect her from making an error with an outdated anecdote, & thus allow radical progressive democrats to make THAT the story rather than their dangerous, purposeful open border policies endangering Americans.”
