San Diego Officials Close Popular, Scenic Beach For 7 Years To Protect Sea Lions

  • The San Diego City Council has unanimously voted to close La Jolla Beach to protect a sea lion population.
  • The mammals breed and nurse on the rocky, rugged Point La Jolla but frequently venture into LaJolla Cove, a popular tourist destination.
  • The council made the decision. Sept. 18 to close the beach for seven years.
