School District Accused Of Using Tax Dollars To Oppose School Choice

Arizona school districts are alleged violating state law by sending representatives to a meeting in which they'll encourage attendees to overturn state’s new school choice law.

  • The allegation is being made by the Goldwater Institute, a Phoenix-based conservative and libertarian public policy think tank.
  • The nonprofit group has sent a letter to the state Attorney General’s Office asking it to investigate and stop the effort.
  • Arizona law prohibits school districts from spending district money or resources, including personnel, to influence election outcomes, the group argues.
  • Such efforts also include those on ballot initiatives and getting voter questions onto a ballot.
