STD Rates Spiking Among Americans 55+

STD rates are seemingly ‘skyrocketing’ among older Americans according to the most recent figures released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

While STD (sexually transmitted diseases) are normally associated with younger people, it seems as though it is older Americans that are contracting certain STDs based on recent stats.

Adults in the US over the age of 55 are contracting the likes of Chlamydia, Hepatitis C, and syphilis at a much higher rate than they were just 10 years ago.

The most recent stats are from 2022, and they show quite a significant increase in the number of adults contracting STDs compared to 2012.

For example, in 2022, there were 5,160 reported cases of syphilis in adults aged 55 and older – an increase from 3,092 in 2020. But to put that into perspective, in 2012, there were only 712 cases.

That is an increase of almost 5,000 cases in just 10 years.
