Tesla’s futuristic Cybertruck has been involved in its first reported accident on the road, leaving a Toyota Corolla severely crumpled, according to a Reddit post that contained images of the collision. The bomber-like Cybertruck appears in perfect condition, straddling the yellow line in Palo Alto, California, while the Toyota sedan’s front is entirely wrecked with airbags deployed. The accident occurred last month.

Police on the scene stated that the 17-year-old Toyota driver did not suffer any injuries, the New York Post reported. Although the Tesla vehicle’s front was not visible, it appeared intact albeit straddling the yellow centre line.

The images of the accident and information concerning this first accident witnessed by the Tesla Cybertruck were provided to the Reddit page.

The reports note that the Cybertruck showed no indication of damage, making it another testament to the resilience and durability of its stainless steel body – characteristics Tesla CEO Elon Musk has often touted on social media. The automaker claims the vehicle can withstand a 9mm bullet, a fact also highlighted during its unveiling.

Since the photos only show the side of the Cybertruck involved in the accident, it’s unclear if any front-end damage occurred. The Toyota, however, appears to have lost its driver-side headlight, and its hood is open and crumpled. The airbag appears to have cushioned the driver, who nevertheless escaped unscathed.

The details of the accident were circulated widely across social media. In further developments surrounding the Tesla brand, results from a file known as OTP Voice show that a scrape-for-web tool produced no results, though it’s unclear what system the tool was meant to access. Nevertheless, this may suggest that Tesla is working on a voice recognition system for its vehicles or introducing an improved version of its current system.
