Tesla Removes Disney+ From Its Streaming Platforms

Several Tesla users have reported the absence of the Disney+ streaming platform from their vehicles, and these reports have emerged just over a week after Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, criticized Disney CEO Bob Iger.

On Monday, Tesla owners began expressing that the Disney+ streaming app was no longer available in their vehicles. They shared photos on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, showing the missing streaming platform. It is noteworthy that Disney+ had been launched on Tesla consoles in 2021.

“I can confirm that Disney+ has been removed from my Tesla Model S,” stated Whole Mars Catalog, an X account covering technology news.

“Strangely, our Hardware 3 Model S on the same firmware still has it.” Whole Mars Catalog also identified a workaround for users who still wish to access Disney+ in their Teslas. They can navigate to the streaming platform’s URL in the vehicle’s search bar to watch Disney+ content.

These reports of Disney+ removal from Tesla vehicles follow Elon Musk’s criticism of Bob Iger on X on December 7. Musk expressed his disapproval of Disney’s advertising strategy, highlighting that Disney continued to advertise on Facebook and Instagram but not on X. Disney, like several other companies, had boycotted X due to concerns that its ads might appear alongside far-right messages.

Musk’s criticisms of Iger and Disney stemmed from a civil lawsuit filed by the attorney general of New Mexico against Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The lawsuit alleged that Facebook and Instagram, two major platforms owned by Meta, created “prime locations” for sexual predators. Musk asserted that Iger believes it is acceptable to advertise next to material involving child exploitation and called for his immediate dismissal.
