Lawyers representing former President Donald Trump have requested a one-month extension on his deadline to pay over $350 million in damages in his New York civil fraud case.

In a letter to New York Judge Arthur Engoron on Wednesday, Trump’s legal team argued that the former president was not adequately informed about the substantial fine and accused New York Attorney General Letitia James of hastening to formalize the judgment.

“Given that the court-appointed monitor continues to be in place, there is no prejudice to the Attorney General in briefly staying enforcement to allow for an orderly post-judgment process, particularly given the magnitude of Judgment,” wrote lawyer Clifford Robert.

Without an extension, Trump and his legal representatives face a 30-day deadline to file the bond and appeal the ruling, with oversight from a court-appointed monitor overseeing the asset transfer process.

Engoron’s ruling last Friday ordered Trump and the Trump Organization to pay over $354 million in damages and barred the former president from holding any officer or director positions in New York-based corporations or legal entities for three years. This decision followed the judge’s determination that Trump had inflated his and his company’s net worth to secure more favorable loan deals.

Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, also face a two-year prohibition on conducting business in New York.
