Former President Donald Trump is reportedly being warned against choosing Nikki Haley, former United Nations Ambassador, as his running mate in 2024.

Close Trump allies have indicated that if Haley is selected as his vice president, there could be an “intra-party coup.” The report from Politico suggests that Republican senators could move to use every tool at their disposal to remove Trump to install Haley instead. In addition, they believe that she would actively subvert the administration.

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has described Haley as an establishment neocon fantasy and a MAGA nightmare. According to him, on the first day in office, Haley would convert the Naval Observatory into an anti-Trump, resistance headquarters, undermining him at every step. Gaetz is not the only one to be opposed to Haley’s possible selection. Many of Trump’s closest allies, including his son Donald Trump Jr., have pledged to do everything in their power to prevent her from taking the VP spot.

During a December interview with Newsmax’s Eric Bolling, Donald Trump Jr. expressed his opposition to Haley’s potential nomination. He stated that he wouldn’t have her and would go to great lengths to make sure that it doesn’t happen. Haley has been a vocal critic of Trump since his impeachment but has also praised some of his policies. Her criticism of Trump’s handling of the 2020 presidential election has led some Trump supporters to label her a traitor.

Despite the opposition from within the Republican party, Haley appears to be popular with many voters. According to a recent poll, Haley is one of the most popular Republicans, with an approval rating of 63%. She is seen as a potential presidential candidate in 2024, but her relationship with Trump could prove to be a stumbling block.

Many Republican leaders are concerned that if Haley becomes the VP nominee, she could pose a serious challenge to Trump’s control of the party. Her moderate positions on some issues, such as climate change and immigration, could also alienate some of Trump’s more conservative supporters. It remains to be seen whether Trump will decide to choose Haley as his running mate in 2024, but her nomination could ignite tensions within the Republican party and damage Trump’s chances of a successful re-election campaign.
