Trump’s Federal Trial On Election Interference Dropped From Calendar

The trial date for Donald Trump, scheduled for March 4 on federal charges related to the alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, has vanished from the D.C. District Court’s calendar. This removal confirms that the legal battle over whether Trump is immune to these charges will result in a delay.

The delay in the trial’s schedule could potentially impact other cases against the former president. With this change in Washington, it becomes increasingly likely that Trump’s initial criminal trial will take place in New York.

In New York, Trump faces charges of falsifying business records in connection to a scheme to pay hush money to an adult film star and a former Playboy model. The trial in New York is tentatively set for March 25.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has previously mentioned that the judge was awaiting developments in other jurisdictions. He indicated in December that a clearer schedule would emerge after the next hearing scheduled for February 15. In the federal case in Washington, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan initially set the trial date for August, shortly after Trump was indicted on three conspiracy charges and one obstruction charge.

However, the case has been removed from the D.C. District Court’s calendar and hasn’t been rescheduled before the November election. Judge Chutkan has not provided an explanation for the alteration in the court docket.

Trump, anticipated to be the Republican presidential nominee, has sought to postpone four criminal cases until after the election. Additionally, he contends that he is immune to federal election charges as he was president during the alleged criminal activities.
