A winter storm has caused 14 fatalities in Tennessee, with other regions of the northeast currently bracing for more cold weather and snow.

Nashville had over nine inches of snow, prompting state offices to be shut for a day and then delayed. Three fatal car crashes have also been blamed on the weather, with 100 further crashes leading to injuries and 200 more causing no injuries. The counties that have reported deaths are Shelby, Hickman, Madison, Washington, Carroll, Knox, Van Buren, Lauderdale, and Henry.

The National Weather Service has now placed winter weather advisories, extending as far south as Alabama and as far north as New Jersey and Michigan, to the east of the Mississippi River. Meanwhile, the capital Washington D.C. is preparing for snowfall on Friday, following the recent snowstorm that saw its heaviest fall for two years.

Authorities are urging caution to all drivers and residents, with hazardous weather conditions impacting a range of states. The fatalities recorded in Tennessee serve as a stark reminder of the challenges posed during treacherous winter weather and the need to take extra precautions.

Weather forecasters are continuing to monitor and update their advisories in response to ongoing developments. Residents in affected regions are advised to seek the latest updates and instructions from local authorities, including for information on road closures or delays and public transport adjustments. Commuters are also advised to allot extra time for their journeys and to ensure they plan accordingly for their own safety and the safety of others.
