2 Americans Dead In Granada After Yacht Hijacked

Three escaped inmates in Grenada are suspected of stealing a yacht and allegedly killing two passengers aboard, believed to be American citizens, the Royal Grenada Police Force reported Thursday.

The trio, identified as Ron Mitchell, 30, Trevon Robertson, 19, and Abita Stanislaus, 25, had fled custody on Sunday, prompting a search effort by law enforcement agencies from Grenada and nearby St. Vincent and the Grenadines, according to a news release shared on Facebook.

Initially apprehended in December and jointly charged with robbery with violence, Mitchell faced additional charges, including rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, and causing harm. The three were detained at the South St. George Police Station on the Caribbean island before their escape.

Authorities discovered evidence suggesting the fugitives boarded a yacht moored in St. George, spurring concerns that the vessel’s occupants, suspected to be American citizens, may have met with foul play during the incident, the police force disclosed on social media.

The investigation is in its nascent stages, with a team of senior investigators and a forensic specialist dispatched to St. Vincent, the police force announced.

In a separate development, Grenadian authorities revealed that another suspect, Levon Date, managed to flee while attending court on Wednesday and is currently evading capture. Date is charged in connection with the 2023 murder of Canadian citizen Wayne Smart.
