- Former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich unleashed on the hard-right faction that is opposing Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s speakership bid.
- Gingrich referred to McCarthy’s opponents as “blackmailers” who are “not just shaking down McCarthy, they are shaking down their fellow House members who voted for him.”
- Gingrich noted that on Nov. 15, the House Republican Conference voted 188-31 for McCarthy over Rep. Andy Biggs to be the next Speaker. “That is an 85 percent majority. In most elections, that’s considered decisive. But not to the blackmailers,” Gingrich wrote.
