Commanders Release QB Wentz After One Season

The Washington Commanders on Monday announced the release of former starting quarterback Carson Wentz after just one season, amid inconsistent play and team salary-cap issues.

  • Wentz came to Washington in a 2022-23 off-season trade from Indianapolis to be the Commanders’ starting quarterback but inconsistent play resulted in him getting benched midway through the year.
  • He was considered  a likely cut this off-season because of the team’s tight salary-cap situation.
  • With Wentz on the team, the Commanders had about $8.3 million to spend on free agency and the 2023 NFL Draft.
