Study: Rising Obesity, Diabetes In U.S. Young Adults

Authors note ‘major public health implications’

  • According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, obesity and diabetes rates are rising in the U.S. among people ages 20 to 44.
  • From 2009 to 2020, the prevalence of diabetes among people between the ages of 20 and 44 rose from 3 percent to just over 4 percent. 
  • Obesity rates jumped from about 33 percent to about 41 percent.
