On Thursday, Parents Defending Education (PDE), a parental rights organization, filed a lawsuit against the Olentangy Local School District on behalf of parents within the school system.
PDE claims that the district has a policy that punishes students who intentionally “misgender” their peers. The lawsuit states that the district has warned students that intentionally using pronouns different from their peers’ “preferred pronouns” violates its policies and will result in “disciplinary action.”
According to the district’s Personal Communication Devices Policy, students are prohibited from using their cell phones or laptops, whether on or off campus, to send messages that may be considered “harassment” of others based on their race, sex, “transgender identity” and political beliefs.
