On Friday, a federal court overturned a district court’s decision, granting the Disc Golf Pro Tour the ability to bar a transgender person from participating in an elite tournament alongside women.
While this ruling may not align with the desired outcome of certain LGBT activists, the reinstated gender policy, which prevents male athlete Natalie Ryan from competing in the women’s tournament, is in line with the decision of the majority of female members of the Professional Disc Golf Association.
Ryan will still have the opportunity to participate in the mixed professional open category but has expressed a preference for competing against women, a practice maintained since March 2019.
