Amtrak Train Derails In Colorado, 2 Hospitalized

In northeast Colorado, an Amtrak passenger train faced a derailment on Monday night, around 10 p.m., specifically in Keenesburg.

The incident occurred when the train collided with a truck transporting milk near county roads 63 and 398 in Weld County. The tracks were obstructed by the truck, leading to the derailment of Amtrak’s Train 6. Despite the collision, all passenger cars remained upright, according to Amtrak reports.

The train involved in the incident was servicing the California Zephyr route, connecting Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Onboard the train were 69 customers. Following the crash, at least two passengers were taken to the hospital, as reported by the Colorado State Patrol. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and assess the aftermath of the derailment.

Keenesburg, situated approximately 45 minutes northeast of Denver along Interstate 76, was the location of the derailment. Authorities and emergency responders are actively working to manage the situation and ensure the safety of those involved.

The incident highlights the challenges posed by collisions with vehicles obstructing railway tracks and underscores the importance of safety measures in rail transport. Efforts are being made to address the immediate impact of the incident that remains under investigation.
