Elizabeth Hoover, a sociology professor at the University of California, Berkeley, has claimed Native American ancestry her “whole life.”
However, unlike Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Hoover has had to confront the reality that she is white and may have benefited from her false identity.
Hoover is an associate professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, and her research concentrates on Native American environmental health and “food sovereignty movements.” When she joined Berkeley’s staff in 2020, campus media reportedly highlighted Hoover as one of the growing numbers of Native American academics at the university.
