Chappelle Also Turns on SF, Asks Audience: ‘What The F–k Happened To This Place?’

  • Comic standup and actor David Chappelle recently gave a surprise, standup show in San Francisco in which he was critical of the liberal city that he once his “second home.”
  • At his show Thursday night, Chappelle described playing hundreds of shows in the city earlier in his career, saying he was at the time “using the city like a goddamn ATM” whenever he needed a paycheck.
  • Later in the show, Chappelle asked, “What the f—k happened to this place?”
  • He told a story about eating at a restaurant in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood a few nights earlier and seeing someone defecate in front of the restaurant as he was walking in.
  • “Y’all [N-words] need a Batman!” he also said.
