CNN Replaces Anchors On Coveted Morning News Show, Admits ‘Sagging Ratings’

Cable News giant CNN announced Monday that it is overhauling its entire slate of morning programming, including new anchors for its prime AM show “CNN This Morning.”

The headline for the story on the CNN website acknowledges changes were made “amid sagging ratings.”

The change come under new chief executive Mark Thompson as the cable news network works to improve its overall lackluster ratings.

“CNN This Morning,” which has aired from 6-9 p.m. ET  will move to Washington, D.C. and anchored by Kasie Hunt from 5-7 a.m., then “CNN News Central” will start two hours earlier, airing from 7-10 a.m.

The network is discussing new roles for the show anchors prior to Monday – Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly.

A CNN spokesperson declined to say how many roles will be impacted as part of the changes, which are set to take effect later this month. But a person familiar with the matter said it will impact dozens of people.
