The Washington Commanders are undergoing a sweeping overhaul of their football leadership team. In a bid to transform their fortunes, team owner Josh Harris has brought on board two high-profile executives: former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers and former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman. The pair will assist the ownership group in their search for a new head of football operations and head coach as the franchise looks to bounce back from a poor season.

The decision to overhaul the team’s front office was sparked by the dismissal of coach Ron Rivera on Monday morning. Rivera had final say in all football decisions and even hired the team’s front office. However, the Commanders’ performances under his leadership have been dismal. They finished the 2021 season with a record of 4-13 and languished at the bottom of the NFC East. Rivera’s overall record of 26-40-1 in his four seasons at the helm was also disappointing.

Harris has brought Myers and Spielman on board to spearhead the search for new leadership talent. The Commanders’ owner has assembled an advisory committee that includes limited partners Mitch Rates, Magic Johnson, and David Blitzer. All eyes will now be on the committee’s progress as they work to rebuild the Commanders’ coaching staff and front office.

Myers is a highly respected figure in sports management. The former Golden State Warriors general manager has been credited with the team’s success during his tenure, which saw them win four championships. He will take a lead role in identifying and coordinating interviews with candidates for the top football operations and head-coaching jobs. Spielman, a 30-year NFL veteran, will work closely with Myers.
