Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday announced his bid for reelection, ending months of speculation over whether 82-year-old lawmaker would retire.
The Democrat-Socialist has been in Congress for over 40 years.
In 2016, he ran for president on the Democrat ticket and posed a serious challenge deep into the primary to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s well orchestrated bid win the party nomination, which she did.
Sanders is the second oldest senator, behind Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, and is the last to announce his reelection bid for 2024.
