GOP Senator Pushes Bill To Make Illegal Immigrants Who Assault An Officer A Deportable Crime

Thousands of Honduran migrants rush across the border towards Mexico, in Tecun Uman, Guatemala, Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. Migrants broke down the gates at the border crossing and began streaming toward a bridge into Mexico. After arriving at the tall, yellow metal fence some clambered atop it and on U.S.-donated military jeeps. Young men began violently tugging on the barrier and finally succeeded in tearing it down. North Carolina Republican Senator Ted Budd is spearheading a Senate bill that aims to designate assaulting law enforcement officers as a deportable offense.

Budd is set to introduce the Protect Our Law Enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act of 2023 on Thursday, asserting to Fox News Digital that backing “our police includes removing dangerous individuals who inflict harm upon them.”

Budd emphasized the importance of immediate deportation for undocumented immigrants who commit the crime of assaulting an officer, stating, “Our lawmakers must consistently support the men and women who safeguard and serve our communities.”
