Griner To Return To WNBA Play

WNBA star has reportedly signed a one-year deal to return to the Phoenix Mercury after being being released from jailed in Russia trying to bring a marijuana-product into the country, then taking several month away from the public eye.

  • Griner in signing the deal as a free agent fulfills a promise upon her release that she would again play professional women’s basketball.
  • Griner, a two-time Olympian, was the league’s No. 1 overall in the 2013 draft.
  • The last time Griner was on the court for the Mercury was when her team played  2021 WNBA Finals.
  • She spent 10 months in a Russian prison after being detain at a Moscow airport in February 2022 for having vape canisters with cannabis oil in her luggage.
