Indiana Sends National Guard Troops To Southern Border To Support Texas

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb (R) announced on Friday that Indiana will be deploying National Guard members to the southern border in response to a request from Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R).

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Governor Holcomb stated, “I am sending 50 #Hoosier Guardsmen to the southern border to support the Texas National Guard on their security mission.” He further indicated that the soldiers would begin mobilizing immediately and would arrive in Texas by mid-March.

According to a press release issued by the governor’s office, this decision comes in direct response to Governor Abbott’s request for assistance. Governor Holcomb’s decision aligns with other Republican governors across the country who are supporting Governor Abbott’s efforts to address border security concerns.

The deployment of Indiana soldiers will last for 10 months, with Governor Holcomb noting that approximately 300 soldiers have been deployed for various federal missions during his tenure. The action comes amidst ongoing disputes between Texas and the federal government over border control, with the Texas National Guard continuing to construct razor wire barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border despite a Supreme Court decision.

Governor Holcomb emphasized the importance of securing the border, citing concerns about national and economic security, as well as the impact of illegal immigration on states like Indiana. He highlighted the need to address the flow of illegal drugs across the border, particularly in light of efforts to combat the drug epidemic within Indiana.

Governor Holcomb’s statements underscore the broader challenges and implications of immigration policy and border security for states across the country.
