MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell says the Fox News Channel had canceled his company’s commercials, one of the cable network’s biggest advertising outlets.
Lindell said that he did not know why the relationship with Fox News soured but proffered “a couple of guesses” – including him hiring former Fox News host Lou Dobbs, who was involved in spreading former President Trump’s allegations of election fraud via rigged voting machines.
Lindell followed suit in promoting these claims, which led to many retailers, including Walmart, pulling MyPillow products off their shelves.
Fox News has rejected Lindell’s speculation and said it suspended the ad partnership with MyPillow because he had not paid the advertising fees billed to him.
“As soon as their account is paid, we would be happy to accept their advertising,” Fox spokeswoman Irena Briganti said.
Lindell acknowledged that MyPillow owes Fox nearly $7.8m, but maintained the sum was within his credit line with the network. His MyPillow empire shells out an average of $1m a week to run its ads on Fox, and the network long allowed him 12 weeks of credit, but recently reduced this to eight.
Lindell added that his pillows are “doing great,” and Fox News’ decision won’t have an impact on his business.
