On the third anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart spoke with Michael Fanone, a former Washington D.C. police officer on duty that day in 2021.

While discussing the issue, Capehart suddenly broke down in tears.

He quickly regained his composure, and Fanone offered words of encouragement, saying that it was OK to have emotions and that he appreciated Capehart’s support for him and his fellow law enforcement officers.

Capehart later said on the social media platform X that he wouldn’t have done anything differently.

Fanone is now as paid CNN contributor.

He has blamed former President Trump for the riot in which he was injured.
