- An unidentified, 35-year-old musician played his saxophone as a team of doctors spent nine hours removing a brain tumor at Rome’s Paideia International Hospital. The patient was awake and conscious throughout the entire operation.
- Dr. Christian Brogna, who led the 10-member surgical team, said, “The tumor was located in a very, very complex area of the brain. Moreover, the patient is left-handed. This makes things more complicated because the neural pathways of the brain are much more complicated.”
- During the operation, Brogna said the patient played the theme song from the 1970 move “Love Story” and the Italian national anthem at various times.
- The surgery was deemed a success and the patient already has been discharged.
