National Black Farmers Say Biden ‘Breaking Promises’

Biden tried through his American Rescue Plan Act to cancel $4 billion in debt owed by farmers of color.

  • The Biden plan to cancel the billions in debt has however been delayed by lawsuits challenging the racial criteria for the financial relief.
  • NBFA President John Boyd says Biden had broken his promise to speak with him directly via FaceTime and lamented that the debt cancellation effort had failed.
  • “We went from 120 percent debt forgiveness, which means 100 percent of your loan will be written off, and 20 percent to pay the taxes to some sort of loan modification,” Boyd said. “And the administration broke his promise … . The president failed to do what he promised to America’s black and other farmers of color.”
