- A small-town Kansas newspaper says its 98-year-old co-owner died Saturday after police raided her home and newsroom apparently related to a story on which its reporter had been working about a restaurateur.
- Police officers raided her home Friday and seized her computer; and they took phones, computers and other equipment and material from the paper’s staff.
- National press organizations have condemned the raids on the the Marion County Record.
- The paper’s staff had been work on a tip about the restaurateur allegedly having operated a vehicle after losing her license in connection with a 2008 DUI.
- The paper investigated the tip but didn’t run the story.
