Screenwriter Simon Stephenson on Saturday said the film “The Holdovers,” an Oscar Best Picture nominee, is “plagiarized line-by-line” from a decade-old screenplay of his.

Stephenson reportedly made the allegations to the Writer’s Guild of America, ahead of the Oscar awards ceremony Sunday.

He suggest the root of the plagiarism started when “The Holdovers” director Alexander Payne read a script for his movie “Frisco” when it made the rounds around Hollywood in 2013.

“The evidence the holdovers screenplay has been plagiarized line-by-line from ‘Frisco’” he wrote in the email.

He said those who have read both scripts use the word “brazen” to describe how the second follows the first.
