  • Progressives suffered a big defeat last week when Congress voted to approve a bipartisan debt limit deal many in their caucus had opposed.
  • It was the latest setback for Democrat Party’s left flank in several months, including policy concessions and a recent, high-profile mayoral election in Philadelphia.
  • The Hill newspaper this weekend identified what it considers five bill losses also including President Biden’s executive order on student loan forgiveness plan, which the House, then the Senate last week voted in favor of blocking.
  • The issue is still being decided in the Supreme Court, with a ruling expected later this month.
