Wildfire Causes Evacuations, Flight Restrictions In Northern Michigan

  • Fire crews from throughout Northern Michigan joined the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in battling a wildfire Saturday evening, officials said.
  • The 1,000-acre fire is located about four miles southeast of Grayling in Crawford County, officials said in a news release. The fire was initially reported near Grayling in a tweet posted at about 2:15 p.m., June 3 by the Michigan DNR.
  • The blaze is moving to the west and southwest and threatens multiple buildings, officials said. Evacuations are being conducted by emergency personnel and shelter for evacuees is available at the Grayling Middle School gymnasium — located at 500 Spruce Street in Grayling — and the Beaver Creek Township Hall at 8888 S. Grayling Road.
