Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) was taken into custody on Wednesday following a 13-count federal indictment, alleging he deceived donors and misrepresented his finances to both government agencies and the public.
The charges against him include seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.
Santos is presently being held at the federal courthouse on Long Island, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
