Scott Banished After Failed Challenge To McConnell

- Florida Sen. Rick Scott was banished from the GOP’s Senate leadership team and replaced as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
- Montana GOP Sen. Steve Daines was elected the new chair of the NRSC for the 2024 election cycle.
- McConnell, who defeated Scott 37-10, is the longest-serving Senate GOP leader.
- “I don’t own this job. Anybody in the conference is certainly entitled to challenge me,” McConnell said at the GOP leadership press conference. “And I welcome the contest.”
