According to the US Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, more than 81,000 migrants were stopped at the US border in the past 10 days as the end of Title 42 approaches on Thursday.
Of that number, 7,400 were classified as “gotaways,” meaning they were able to evade Border Patrol and enter the US undetected in the past 72 hours.
Additionally, an estimated 18,700 gotaways were reported in the seven days prior. Most gotaways are observed on remote video surveillance or by field agents but are unable to be apprehended.
