Sheriff’s Deputy Charged For Tasing Man Pumping Gas, Setting Him On Fire

A sheriff’s deputy in Florida has faced criminal charges for deploying a Taser at a man who was pumping gas, resulting in a fire that caused severe burns to nearly 75% of the victim’s body.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Deputy David Crawford of Osceola County was charged with culpable negligence for the incident that occurred on February 27, 2022, at a Wawa gas station in Orange County. The incident was captured on video.

The officer tackled Jean Barretto Baerga after being pursued by law enforcement in response to a report of reckless motorcycle riders.
